The Absolute Fencing Elite 2 fencing shoe is the modern, updated 2009 version of the AF Elite 1, which was discontinued recently. It is an ideal fencing shoe for someone who wants a balance of quality and affordability. Absolute put a lot of work into improving the quality and features of this line of shoes. They improved materials for increased quality, comfort, and longevity. They added extra heel and arch support for those fencers who need it. They increased seam durability, making it harder to simply breaking through the seams (a common problem in inexpensive fencing shoes). The Absolute Fencing Elite 2 is billed as "the best fencing shoes for under $70", and Fencing.net is currently carrying them for $60. The Adidas Stabil S, the parent of the Stabil 7 but predecessor of the Stabil Carbon, is typically described as an unsatisfying middle ground between the two, at least as fencing shoes go. It isn't really any different in features or performance over the Stabil 7, which is still available, and has generated some negative reviews on the subject of its production quality and overall lifespan. I wouldn't really suggest going for a Stabil S unless all of the Stabil 7s are no longer available, or unless you wish to bump up the price tag and quality level a bit and go for a Stabil Carbon.
